Facilitator's Bios

 

Rha Goddess is a world renowned performance artist, activist, and social entrepreneur. Her work has been featured in numerous international compilations, forums, and festivals. She has received rave industry reviews from Time, Ms., ESSENCE, The Source, among other publications.

In her 30+ year tenure as an organizer she has worked on issues of racial justice and equality, electoral politics, youth empowerment, offender aid and restoration, arts and culture, mental health and young women's empowerment. She is the Creator and Executive Producer of the young woman's performance movement, We Got Issues! and The Hip Hop Mental Health Project. Honors and awards include, Meet the Composer, NPN Creative Award, Lambent Fellow Nominee, and ESSENCE Magazine's Top 30 Women to Watch, among many, many others.

In her newest venture, Goddess combines her hard earned business savvy with her longstanding passion for social change to create Move The Crowd, LLC a social networking, training, and development firm. Goddess holds a dual degree from Vassar College in Chemistry and Computer Science and is a Certified Transformational Trainer and Empowerment Coach.…

JLove Calderon is an educator, activist, and author of three books: We Got Issues! A Young Women's Guide to Bold, Courageous and Empowered Life with Rha Goddess; That White Girl; and Conscious Women Rock the Page! Using Hip-Hop Fiction to Incite Social Change with Black Artemis, E-Fierce, and Marcella Runell Hall. Her fourth book, Till The White Day Is Done: White Privilege, Hip-Hop, and Social Change, is scheduled for release in 2010. Her debut novel, That White Girl, has been optioned for film.

Calderon has also received numerous awards, including the Union Square Award for activism, and Self Magazine's Self Starter of the Year Award. On the lecture circuit, she engages audiences across the country, from town-hall meetings to Harvard University. JLove graduated Cum Laude from San Diego State University (Africana Studies) and received her Master's in Education from Long Island University.
