JLove was an activist before she even knew what the term meant. She got politicized in college and then was able to make meaning of her lived experiences. In it for the long haul, JLove focuses on racial justice, gender equity, freedom from incarceration, decriminalizing young people of color, and overall social and economic freedom for all people. She has been involved in movement work for over two decades, organizing in several key multiracial grassroots organizations, including but not limited to: Universal Zulu Nation, El Puente, We Got Issues!, REACH Hip-Hop and more recently Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), and Harry Belafonte’s legacy project, Sankofa.
